Former President Donald Trump moved significantly closer to a surprising return to the White House early Wednesday by winning North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, three critical swing states.
The so-called “blue wall” states—Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan—were Vice President Kamala Harris’s best chance of securing the presidency after Trump claimed victories in Georgia and North Carolina. Without winning Pennsylvania, her path to the White House appears unlikely, and both NBC News and Fox News have called the state in favor of Trump.
In addition to North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, Trump also quickly secured victories in Florida, Ohio, and several strongholds for Republicans in the South, including Texas. Meanwhile, Harris has won a number of states in the Northeast, stretching from Vermont to Maryland, as well as New York and her home state of California.
Republicans have also picked up control of the Senate, adding to what could be a very good night for Trump.
