Urohobo task Delta govt on killing

Published by

The Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) has called on the Delta State government to halt all forms of killings and evil ongoing between Aladja and Ogbe Ijoh communities in Udu and Warri South West local governments of the state.

New President General of the umbrella union of all Urhobos, Chief Moses Taiga, also announced that the union had set up a committee to find immediate and lasting solutions to the lingering communal crisis.

Taiga also called on the warring parties to sheathe their swords in the interest of posterity and development.

It will be recalled that the crisis rocking the brotherly communities has been characterised by allegations of kidnapping, arson and beheading of individuals to settle scores bordering on age-long borderline.

The PG made these known shortly after the end of the union’s inaugural meeting held in Abraka recently.

Taiga disclosed that he had also inaugurated some other committees in order to achieve his electoral promises of making Urhobo great, again.

According to him, aside the Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh crisis committee, Reconciliation, Urhobo Speaking and other committees would be headed by  UPU 1st Deputy President General, Chief Osiobe Okotie.

Taiga called for the unity of all Urhobo people, insisting that it was the only way forward and to sustainable development.

He reiterated his campaign promises of building an Urhobo University, Urhobo Microfinance Bank, renovation of Urhobo College and revitalisation of all Technical Colleges in Urhobo land.

A committee to harmonise the relationship between Urhobo and her neighbours and other ethnic nationalities has also been inaugurated,  he noted.

At the well-attended meeting by all executive members of the new UPU executive members, the Ghana branch paid its obeisance to the new UPU leadership.
