UPDATE: Police arrest suspected suicide bomber at Oyedepo’s church

A suspected suicide bomber has been arrested by the security of the Living Faith Church located at the Sabo metropolis of Chikun Local government area of Kaduna State.

Findings by the Tribune Online revealed that the young man has since been handed over to the police for further investigations.

A member of the church, Kayode Michael, said the suspect was seated in the church premises on Sunday morning while other worshippers thronged the church for the Sunday service.

“A vigilante security became suspicious of the strange face and began to interrogate him only to discover some strange things on him.

“As soon as he was thoroughly investigated we discovered things like a bomb on him.”

Another account from the church said the suspect was seen in the premises with a bag and when the church security was trying to know who he was, the suspect tried to escape but he was apprehended.

Another member of the church who gave his name as Simeon Amos disclosed that the suspect wanted to detonate the bomb on his way out before he was arrested.

Speaking in an interview, the Chief Security Officer of the church, Ekpenyong Edet, said the suspect was monitored on a CCTV camera carrying the bag into the church auditorium after beating security check at the entrance.

“He successfully gained access and was seated before he was suspected and the bag searched, only to find the explosive device,” he said.

As at the time of filing this report, security has been intensified around the church.

When contacted, the Police image-maker, DSP Yakubu Sabo, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

But he said the police is currently carrying out its investigation, saying, “we can not conclude that he is a suicide bomber until the investigation is over. After our findings, we will make it public.”
