No fewer than five adult males have been rescued alive after a three-storey building collapsed on Saturday in Lagos.
Located on Oremeta Street, Ojodu Berger, the building was under construction at the time it caved in. The collapse occurred in an old building that was being used as an eatery. However, no lives were lost, and those with injuries have received medical attention.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), led by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, survivors have received pre-hospital care.
He stated that additional construction had been carried out on the existing structure, which subsequently collapsed.
“All first responders are on the scene to continue search and rescue operations,” he said.
“The agency responded to the incident, and upon the arrival of the Shark Team at the scene, it was discovered that a storey building under construction had collapsed.
“Fortunately, no loss of life has been recorded, while five adult males have been rescued alive.
“The Shark Team, alongside LRU paramedics, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LNSC officials, and the Nigeria Police Force, are among the responders currently at the incident scene,” he said.
