President Muhammadu Buhari
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has dispelled insinuation that he is against the restructuring of the country, stressing that he is not like the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar who knows he cannot do it singlehandedly but engages in deceitful promises.
Without mentioning Atiku by name, he distanced himself from the “cunning and deceitful character” who is giving a time frame for the nation’s restructuring.
The President’s position is contained in the “Buhari/Osinbajo 2019 Basic Guide” Campaign manual launched in Abuja on Sunday.

In trying to counter the allegation that the administration does not believe in restructuring, the document stated: “Sometimes in 2017, the APC set up a Committee headed by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State to make far-reaching recommendations on restructuring.
“That Committee submitted its report early in 2018. In all his public outings throughout the years, the Vice President has advocated for restructuring and true federalism.
“The President himself is not a cunning and deceitful character, like some other candidate, who knows he does not have the powers to singlehandedly restructure the country through constitutional amendments and would engage in giving a time-frame within which the country would be restructured.
“The President has never indicated he would oppose any move by the National Assembly to carry out constitutional amendments to fully reflect true federalism.”
The president also dismissed the claim that his anti-corruption war is one-sided saying that his administration had set out to recover arms money diverted by members of the previous administration.
On this, the document further said: “Specifically on the recovery of stolen funds, the Buhari administration, has from the onset, sought to recover monies meant for arms that were diverted for political campaigns in 2015.
“Incidentally, it is those who served in the last administration that mostly partook in diverting these funds.
“The convictions achieved so far under this administration of Politically Exposed Persons are ex-governors who belong to the APC (Ex-Gov Joshua Dariye of Plateau State and Ex-Gov Jolly Nyame of Taraba State).
“Several other APC bigwigs are undergoing trials in different courts without any attempt by the President to interfere in those trials. The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, when he was in APC, was put on trial.”
“We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave,” the minister said.
