UNIZIK to sanction staff over unauthorised campaign for governing council’s positions

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has issued a warning against unauthorized campaigning for council membership positions within the institution.

In a statement signed by Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor (Information and Public Relations), and made available to journalists in Awka on Saturday, the university management advised that campaigning for the following positions—four elected from the University Senate, two from the Congregation, and one from the Convocation—should cease immediately.

The statement noted that the university management has become aware that certain staff members have begun unauthorized campaigns for the upcoming Governing Council elections.

It emphasized that the management strongly disapproves of these unauthorized public campaigns by individuals seeking to fill vacant positions on the University Council.

The statement further highlighted that these individuals have been creating WhatsApp groups and engaging in other forms of public mobilization, which are not permitted by the university.

“The university management unequivocally condemns these actions and the activities of those seeking to undermine the peace of the university.

We urge all concerned to desist from these activities immediately. The university is committed to ensuring a transparent and orderly process for the election of Council members, adhering to established procedures.

Any attempts to influence or manipulate this process, including unauthorized campaigning, will not be tolerated.

The management is considering appropriate disciplinary measures against those already found to be involved in these activities, which may include disqualification from consideration for Council positions.

We appeal to all members of the university community to uphold our values and respect institutional processes and values regarding the Council membership elections,” the statement concluded.
