UNIZIK SSANU elects new executive

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, has elected its new executive to pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years, with Comrade Chukwudi Antonia Chineyenwa as Chairman.

Other executives include Comrade Ofuebe Obierika Amuchluchenna (Vice Chairman), Comrade Anyali Tevin (Secretary), Ohis Victor Sunday (Assistant Secretary), Comrade Akujobi Tochukwu Prince (Treasurer), Comrade Nzewi Chinedu (Public Relations Officer), Comrade Nwafor Onyebuchi (Ex-Officio), Comrade Edith Ogoma (Financial Secretary), Comrade Modesta Onyenyechi (Women’s Coordinator), and Comrade Aniakor Kingsley Nnamdi (Trustee).

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the election, which was the 5th Quadrennial Congress, was held at the Multipurpose Hall of the university on Tuesday, 25 March 2025. It was conducted by the union’s electoral committee, chaired by Comrade Engr David Okeke, FIMC, MNSE, CMC.

The exercise was observed by representatives of the National/South-East Zonal Committee, security personnel, the media, as well as the Unizik branch congresses.

The National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, who subsequently inaugurated the new executive, hailed the electoral committee for organising a free, fair, and credible election. He urged the officials to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary performance.

Also speaking, the National Vice President (South-East Zone), Comrade Engr Okey Animba, congratulated the new executive members on their victory and encouraged them to endeavour to live above board.

In her post-election speech, Comrade Chukwudi Antonia, who received a certificate of return along with her executive members, dedicated her victory to God and pledged to prioritise the welfare of union members.

She commended the university’s acting vice chancellor, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu, for ensuring a conducive environment before, during, and after the exercise.

In his brief remarks, the Chairman of the election credential committee, Engr Okeke, described the process as peaceful.
