A total of 24 lecturers of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, have been promoted to the professorial cadre.
The university’s acting director of information and public relations, Mrs. Chika Ene, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday said apart from the 24 newly promoted professors, another 23 were equally promoted to the rank of reader.
Ene said the lecturers were promoted after thorough scrutiny at the 99th meeting of the Appointments and Promotions Committee for academic staff and subsequently approved by the university’s governing council at its 119th meeting recently.
According to her, five of the newly promoted professors are from the Faculty of Management Sciences; four from Social Sciences; and three each from the faculties of Arts, Engineering and Medicine.
Faculties of Health Science Technology and Bio-Sciences have two each, while Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences has one.
She also disclosed that many junior members of staff who had upgraded their certificate had all been converted to senior staff cadre.
