A total of twenty-four Academians have been promoted to the professorial cadre in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
The varsity‘s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs Chika Ene, who disclosed this in a statement made available to Tribune Online in Awka, on Sunday, said aside from the 24 persons promoted to professorial rank, another 23 were equally promoted to the rank of Reader.
The university’s image-maker stated that the staff were promoted after thorough scrutiny at the 99th meeting of the Appointments and Promotions Committee for Academic staff and subsequently approved by the Varsity’s Governing Council at its 119th meeting recently.

According to her: “Faculty of Management Sciences tops the chart with 5 professors followed by Social Sciences with 4 professors, while Arts, Engineering and Medicine have 3 professors.
“Faculties of Health Science Technology and Bio-Sciences have two each while faculties of Basic Medical Sciences have one each. Out of the 24 persons, 7 are of the feminine gender.
She posited that the timely promotion is due to the Vice-Chancellor’s drive towards transforming the university towards becoming one of the best 200 varsities in the world.
According to her: “The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Charles Esimone, has placed a huge priority on staff welfare. A good number of members of staff both teaching and non-teaching have been promoted.”
She noted that many junior staff who had upgraded their certificate in the course of time have all been converted to senior staff and all of these are happening within 7 months of assuming office as Vice-Chancellor.
