Over the weekend, a total of 9,000 fresh students have taken the matriculation oath of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, the Anambra State capital

Speaking at the event, held at the Convocation Arena, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, urged students, to pursue their studies with seriousness.

He said over 75,000 candidates picked the university at the 2018/2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) but only 9,000 were admitted in line with its admission quota.

The VC urged the students to shun all social vices, such as cultism, examination misconduct, certificate forgery and rape to avoid suspension or expulsion.

Prof. Ahaneku said the names of any student expelled would be sent to their parents/guardian, security agencies and all tertiary institutions in the country, such that the person will not be admitted in any university in the country.

Speaking to our correspondent, some of the students described the moment as one of the turning points in their lives.

Tony Chiwetito of the Law Department, thanked God for his admission into the institution, promising to make his parents proud and graduate with the best grade.

Miss Onyekachukwu Faith described UNIZIK as her dream institution because of its academic excellence.

She was grateful to God to being part of the matriculation ceremony.
