UNIZIK inducts 125 medical graduates

A total of 125 medical graduates of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, were inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) at the weekend during the institution’s 54th induction ceremony.

The event took place at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State.

This was just as the governing council of the university reiterated its commitment to building and upgrading facilities at the College of Health Sciences, Nnewi.

Speaking during the induction ceremony, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi, said the facility upgrade is in line with the policy direction of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Visitor to the university, President Bola Tinubu.

He said, “As I said during my familiarisation tour, having seen and interacted with the management, members of staff and students of the university both in Awka and Nnewi, it is imperative that we do something fast to build the requisite infrastructure that will bring the Nnewi campus close to, if not at par with, the Awka campus.

“While we commit to the upgrading, rehabilitation and renovation of infrastructure in the university – in line with the policy direction of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu – we have already struck a deal with the management of the university that they will do their utmost best to promote a culture of maintenance of the existing facilities in the university.

“Gone were the days when institutions would be crying for more funding and projects while leaving the existing ones to rot away without any care or maintenance simply because they are public facilities,” he said.

Kukoyi congratulated the management of the university, the graduands, and their parents on the successful completion of the programme, culminating in the induction of 125 doctors into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

He urged them to go out and be worthy ambassadors of the university.

The induction ceremony was attended by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu; Chief Medical Director of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Joseph Ugboaja; Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Jude-Kennedy Emejulu; and Emeritus Prof. Joseph Adinma, among others.

The medical oath was administered to the graduands by the representative of the Registrar/CEO of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Fatima Kyari.
