University Graduates should be trained to create job, Prof Nwajiuba advocates

The Vice Chancellor,  Alex Ekwueme Federal University,  Ndufu Alike Ikwo,  Prof. Chinedu Nwanjiuba has advocated that the university graduates must not be trained on the assumption that there is a job somewhere to be employed into, rather, the graduates must create jobs for themselves.

According to him, the entrepreneurship and employability programmes will help to identify and provide solutions to the challenges confronting the society.

Prof. Nwanjuba stated these on Thursday at the AE-FUNAI auditorium hall during a Public lecture titled “The African University of the future: A knowledge Enterprise for Articulating and Incubating Radical Solutions to the Formidable challenges on the continent.”

The Vice Chancellor who maintained that the institution hope to establish a long term action oriented relationship with Songhai to support their core mandate of teaching, research, and community service, prayed that the relationship will be institutionalised in manner that the new generation of graduates are train to create jobs and not be mere job seekers.

“We hope that our students can go to Songhai for training, we hope that Songhai can provide us technical support to Implement her what we saw in Port novo, and what Songhai has across the provinces of Benin Republic as well as in a number of other African Countries.

“We also hope to have a binding MoU that ensure this ,most critically, we hope to achieve a positive shift in the pervading attitude to work, life and living which can be summarized as ‘miseducation’ of Nigerian Youths, manifesting in sweet without sweat, benefits without responsibility, wealth without work and a general mentality of entitlement,” he said

However, Father Godfrey O. P. Nzamujo, a professor of Engineering Director, Songhai Centre, Port Novo while delivering his public lecture series titled ” the African University of the future,” promised to provide technical support to AE-FUNAI to Implement all they saw in Port Novo, and all that Songhai has across the provinces of Benin Republic and other African Countries.

He further promised to engage the students to be more practical so that after their education, they would become more functional.
