Unity Senior Secondary School Old Student Association (USSOSA, 1995 set), has awarded a scholarship to a JSS 3 student, Akinwumi Akinola, to the university level.
President of USSOSA (95 set), Jude Chiedu, said this is to appreciate the academic prowess of Akinola, who he said also needs all the encouragement to continue to thrive in his academics.
Chiedu, charged Nigerians to be compassionate, show love and integrity as these virtues would keep the nation binding.
He said people should become honest as the society is losing value and there is no integrity, compassion and true love in the society anymore.
He stated this at the mega reunion and award night of the association in Lagos.
According to him, the ‘95 set of USSOSA is an organisation that has been helping the needy, assisting the underprivileged in the community, visiting the motherless babies’ homes with palliatives.
He said: “We the members of 95 set have decided to reward our teachers by giving them palliatives which included food items.”
Chiedu said one of the factors that had distinguished the association from others was integrity and love.
Speaking on indiscipline in schools, he said it is unfortunate that the society is where it is today.
Also speaking, a coach, Dr Tony Akabuno, the current BOT chairman of the association, said there were reasons for the reunion, and one was fraternise with old classmates where they could interface and give back.
Akabuno, who was the first head boy of the school, said so many projects had been carried out in the school by the old student association.
He said: “The key word for members is to be charitable. Everything cannot be left to the government. So, let us not be complainers but be a doer.”
In the same vein the immediate past president of ‘95 set and also the immediate past president of the Old Student Association General, Augustine Uwandu, speaking on phone from Canada, extended a warm welcome to every member of set at the event.
He said it was heartening to re-connect with friends from the past. He said the reunion was a time to reminisce, celebrate achievements, and rekindle the spirit of camaraderie.
Uwandu said: “Reflecting my time as president of both ‘95 sets and the general platform, I am reminded of the incredible journey we undertook together, and serving this esteemed association was a privilege that I will forever cherish.”
