THE Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Dr Folaranmi Olowoleni, has warned that the institution has zero tolerance for cultism and drug abuse.

Olowoleni gave the warning on Monday while declaring open a three-day orientation programme for the 2018/2019 newly-admitted students of the university.

She cautioned the students to shun examination malpractices and indecent dressing, among other vices.

Olowoleni urged the students to maintain hard work, perseverance, commitment and adherence to the school’s rules and regulations as contained in the students’ handbook.

She advised the students to take advantage of the guidance and counsel provided by the university’s Guidance and Counselling Unit.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University, Prof. Sylvia Malomo, urged the students to be focused and lead a purposeful life.

Malomo advised the students to avoid using their money for non-productive activities such as gambling and betting of any kind.

She said that money received from their parents and well-wishers must be judiciously used for what would make life and their academic activities easy.

Also speaking, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Lanre Ajibade, advised the students to ensure that they attend classes, go for their lectures on time and have study time for themselves.

The Deputy Chief Imam and the Chaplain of the university, Prof. Yahya Imam and Dr Olasupo Ozagie advised the students on righteousness and religious tolerance.

A member of the Dress Code Committee of the university, Dr Raji Jimoh, urged the newly-admitted students to always dress properly in line with the standard of the university dress code.

He said that not conforming to the rules meant a violation of the set rules and regulation of the university, saying that this might lead to expulsion from the university.
