The University of Ilorin has secured full accreditation for 36 out of the 37 courses it presented during the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercise, with the remaining one receiving interim accreditation.
The results of the accreditation exercise, conducted in October/November 2024, were recently released. They were conveyed in a letter dated April 30, 2025, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu. This was disclosed in a statement by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun.
In the letter, signed on behalf of Professor Ribadu by the NUC Acting Director of Accreditation, Engineer Abraham Chundusu, the Commission explained that while 36 courses were granted full accreditation, only one — Hausa — received interim accreditation.
“No course was denied accreditation,” the letter emphasized.
The statement further detailed the accreditation results:
Regarding the Faculty of Arts, of the two courses presented — Igbo and Hausa — Igbo received full accreditation, while Hausa was granted interim accreditation.
Reacting to the development, Vice Chancellor Professor Egbewole expressed excitement and a sense of fulfillment on behalf of the University’s management, staff, and students.
In a statement issued by the University’s spokesperson, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said, “We are happy to be so recognised; we are indeed elated.”
He noted that this achievement reflects the University Administration’s consistent and substantial investment in both human and material resources.
Professor Egbewole assured that more efforts would be made to justify this recognition. He extended his gratitude to the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and all faculty members “who made this possible.”
He added, “It is our hope that we will continue to do our best to position the University for even more recognitions. We want to assure everyone that the Administration will continue to appreciate their efforts.”
