University of Ilorin Alumni Association has elected a new set of executives to run affairs of the association for the next four years, in a congress organized during the weekend.

In a statement by the national publicity secretary of the association, Chief Olorunsuwa Elijah Ola, the congress, held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, was well attended by over 1,000 members across 33 states of the federation and the FCT.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of Council of Past Presidents, Professor Durosaro David Olorunfemi, took the congress through memory lane and decried the enormity of the crises which occurred in 2021 even as he narated the various unsuccessful peace efforts made towards ensuring a lasting peace in the association.

Also speaking, the chairman of the National Interim Committee of the association, Professor Jeleel Ojuade, recounted the mandate of the committee given by the congress on March 26, 2021, to run the association and conduct elections within six months.

He informed the congress that challenges ranging from court injunctions both in Kwara and Nasarawa states, police harassment both in Abuja and Kogi states, media harassment by Dr. Fashakin, among others, are some of the reasons why the election was delayed for another 26 months.

He thanked all members of the association for giving them the trust to hold the association together. He expanded his appreciation to the Interim Committee members who assisted him.

The new National President, Professor Kilani Abdulrasheed Olusuyi in his acceptance speech, attributed the reputation of University of Ilorin to the founders and the managers of the University from 1975 till date.

He promised to bring integrity,  commitment, and loyalty to the core values of the association and the University.
