UNILAG to partner Chinese investors on research, business opportunities

THE University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Chinese investors and researchers on research and business oportunities that can help strengthen the economic and cultural ties between Nigeria and China.

The deputy vice chancellor of the university in charge of development services, Professor Folashade Ogunsola, gave the indication during a seminar on research and collaboration opportunities organised by the institution’s newly established Institute of Nigeria-China Development Studies (INCDS), held in the university recently.

According to her, the university is pleased with the manner by which INCDS has been harnessing research and collaboration potential between Nigeria and China since establishment.

“All we love to see now is for better relationship, cordiality, love of values to exist between both countries beyond the already trade relations,” she added.

So, in this regard, she added that the two countries would not only need to work together more on their areas of focus, but also develop new grounds.

In his remarks, the director, INCDS, UNILAG, Professor Olufemi Saibu, said the institute would continue to facilitate inward and outward trade relations between the two countries.

He explained that the vision of the institute is to “become an institute for exchange of intellectual ideas and research excellence in pursuit of knowledge for development, mutual trade and economic activities that will impact positively the Chinese-Nigeria economies and culture.”

He said the institute would continue to provide platforms for profound and innovative research activities which would help propel Chinese investors and encourage investments, especially as they relate to both countries’ relationship.

Speaking at the event, Ronnie Liu, who is the chairman of Chinese Investment Association, said there were lots of business opportunities yet untapped by people of Nigeria and China.

He spoke on ‘Business and Investment Opportunities in Nigeria and China’, saying his association is already encouraging more Chinese business-minded people to come to Nigeria for investment opportunities.
