THE United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in collaboration with the European Union (EU), has renovated and upgraded seven Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Adamawa.
Dr Halima Abdu of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office made this known Monday in Yola at the handing over of one of the health centres in Doubeli Ward of Yola North Local Government Area.
Abdu said that UNICEF had been partnering with Adamawa government in key sectors of health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, basic education and child protection.

According to her, UNICEF has received support from the EU to assist the state implement healthcare services under the project known as “Strengthening Primary Health Care and Community Resilience for improved Maternal, New-born, Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN).”
Abdu reiterated the commitment of UNICEF to continue to fulfil its obligations in partnership with Adamawa government.
Speaking at the occasion, the Executive Chairman of Adamawa Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Batulu Mohammed, represented by the Secretary, Mr Abubakar Umar, lauded UNICEF for its sustained support to the state, particularly in the area of health.
Umar noted that UNICEF, through funding from EU, had, apart from upgrading PHCs in the state, engaged in training and retraining of health staff at state and local government levels.
“Such interventions have placed Adamawa in a leading position in the country in primary healthcare delivery,” Mohammed said.
Also speaking, the Adamawa Coordination of National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Omega Ndwakan, also lauded the intervention by UNICEF in Adamawa and urged benefiting communities to ensure proper utilization of the facilities.
In his remarks, Mr Amos Theophilus, the Vice Chairman of Yola North Local Government Transition Committee, thanked UNICEF for upgrading the health centres, which have been rendering 24 hours services to Doubeli community.
