A total of 100 graduates of University of Benin (UNIBEN) are scheduled to be conferred with first-class honours degree at the forthcoming graduation ceremony for the 2018/2019 academic session, the vice-chancellor, Prof. Faraday Orunmwense has disclosed.
Orunmwense who spoke with journalists in Benin said that out of the 19,198 students who graduated in the 2018/2019 session, 100 came out with first-class honours, 2,274 bagged second class upper, 4,011-second class lower, while 592 graduated with third-class honours.

The vice-chancellor said that 273 will also be awarded doctorate degrees, 1,977 postgraduate diplomae and 253 awarded diploma, among others.
He said the university has achieved much in the area of infrastructural development and academic excellence, adding the institution has won the global award.
According to him, the school in partnership with Lancaster University (UK) and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (Ghana) won a Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) grant to grow its research capability to meet the challenges faced by the developing world.
Orunmwense noted that during his administration, the institution developed computer-based examinations for undergraduates, introduce information technology, massive construction, provision of 24 hours library and renovation of lecture theatres, among others.
