IN a great leap of success, the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has been ranked as the second best by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in its recent accreditation programme of Nigerian Universities, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Faraday Orumwense has disclosed.

Orumwense who spoke Wednesday at a media briefing heralding the 44th Convocation/48th Founder’s Day lecture Ceremonies of the institution explained that the feat was as a result of the smooth running of both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in the last four years.

“Since the inception of this administration, academic activities in the University of Benin have taken a giant leap. Our academic programmes, both undergraduate and post-graduate have ran smoothly, placing the University of Benin on the Second position in the National Universities Commission accreditation (NUC),” he said.

He said relative industrial harmony among staff, students and management team of the institution, accounted for the modest achievement.

Orumwense said the ugly incidence of cultism and other associated vices in the University Campuses have been reduced to its barest minimum.

According to him, the improved security situation in the school was made possible by the procurement of additional six patrol vehicles by the school authority which has resulted in renewed public confidence.

He added that the school had successfully launched the Ceemtree for Global Eco-Innovation in collaboration with Lancaster University, United Kingdom.
