‘Unhealthy’ Buhari can still rule beyond 2019- youths, students, artisan, others declare

A Coalition of over 200 NGOs, on Tuesday, besieged Abuja, in support of President Muhammadu Buhari’ second term in office, saying unhealthy Buhari could still rule beyond 2019.

The coalition, under the aegis of Forum of Non-Governmental Organizations in Nigeria (FONGON), therefore, warned former President Olusegun Obasanjo to put a halt to his act of imposing his win and comprises in government as 2019 general elections are fast approaching.

Addressing newsmen at Top Rank Hotel, Abuja, its National Coordinator, Wole Badmus, who described Obasanjo’s letter as destructive and distractive, said Buhari’s health status has nothing to do with 2019 elections, as most youths have failed the nation, hence, the reason why students, women, artisans, as well as youth groups and others, drawn from the nation’s six geopolitical zones to support him beyond 2019.

According to him, unhealthy President Buhari is still ten times better than past presidents in this country. The President claimed to be in good health, where have they landed us? Sick President Buhari still attends and addresses meetings, but a young President attended the United Nations’ meeting, slept off because he was drunk.

“The handwriting made us come out in this material time. We are coming out not to campaign but to stop intimidators and looters from rewriting history. All their antics are towards 2019,” he stated.

Badmus also announced that starting from next Tuesday, February 2018 6, the Coalition would kick-start a nationwide rally in support of Buhari administration.

“We, the concerned NGOs, have come together to rally support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, because we believe strongly that it has, since assuming office on 29 May 2015, performed creditably in putting Nigeria on the path of growth and development.

“We have chosen to come out this time because there seems to be an orchestrated campaign going on across the country at the moment to demonize the Buhari administration, in order to pave the way for the return of the same people who brought the country to where it was before President Buhari launched his rescue mission upon assuming office.2019: Obasanjo can’t stop Buhari ―Shittu

“We are concerned that unless an urgent action is taken, the voices of these people, whom we believe are being sponsored by looters and those who have been prevented from turning the nation’s treasury to their personal banks, may become the dominant voices.

“Make no mistake, Nigeria is not yet where it ought to be and things are still quite tough for our people, but we believe that President Buhari is on the right path in addressing the problems facing the country. Those judging him harshly are being unfair and uncharitable, and have refused to look at the situation on the ground when the administration assumed office. Let’s remind them of how things were on May 29, 2015.

“President Buhari is putting Nigeria on a solid footing. He has what it takes to do it. All he needs is the support of Nigerians. Had every administration since 1999 done half of what the Buhari administration is doing now, it would have been easier for the administration to build on their efforts. But it is tough having to build from the scratch.

“The strategy of the naysayers is to deploy propaganda, social media rats and the agents of treasury looters to continuously heckle the Buhari administration. We will no longer allow them to have a field day. We will not allow them to sabotage the efforts of the Buhari administration. We will not allow them to take Nigeria back to those dark days. We will not allow them to dominate the airwaves, the streets and the roads. We will not allow them to mortgage our future for their selfish ends,” he declared emphatically.
