Published by

Bauchi State office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has expressed readiness to collaborate with a Bauchi-based CSO, Journalists for Public Health and Development Initiative (J4PD) to implement its activities in the state.

The partnership specifically gives visibility to the UNFPA activities in Bauchi State that promote a healthy and prosperous society.

The decision to go into the partnership was sealed during an engagement meeting held between UNFPA Bauchi State office and J4PD, at the Bauchi State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination on Tuesday.

Under the partnership, J4PD would be showcasing UNFPA’s activities in Bauchi State through its accurate and sustained reportage using both print, electrictonic and online channels.

Also, J4PD is to leverage on existence of the state official website and its own website by sharing its editorial contents in relation to UNFPA’s activities with the Bauchi State MDAs.

In her remarks, Bauchi Office Coordinator of UNFPA, Deborah Tabara, said that the meeting was to discuss how J4PD will give visibility to UNFPA activities and other implementing partners.

She wants to see a situation where anybody across the globe can access UNFPA activities with a click on Bauchi State website.

Deborah Tabara further said that there are a lot of reports on UNFPA on the net from Bauchi but not on the website, therefore the narrative must change.

The Executive Director (ED) of J4PD, Elizabeth Kah during the meeting, assured that the Bauchi CSO will be reporting activities of UNFPA and uploading it on the state official website.

She added that the CSO would also develop radio programs to create awareness and educate citizens of the State in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, sexual and gender based violence, early/forced girl child marriages, family planning and other population related issues in the state.

Elizabeth Kah also said that J4PD would be working with the State Bureau for ICT that manages the state website, to have editorial contents reports on UNFPA programs and activities hosted on the website.

The meeting was attended by the Executive Director of J4PD, UNFPA’s Gender/Reproductive Health Analyst Deborah Tabara, Deputy Director, Donor Coordination of the State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination Mohammed Usman, Director of Information and representatives of the ICT bureau.

It could recalled that few months ago, officials of J4PD had paid a courtesy call to the state office of the UNFPA. The purpose of that visit was to explore areas of collaboration with the world body.
