Unending hardship in Nigeria: A call to action

AS it stands, millions of Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet. The country is tortured by economic hardship, insecurity, poor governance and corruption.

According to research, over 89 million Nigerians live below the poverty line, with many unable to afford basic necessities like food, healthcare, shelter and education. The unemployment rate has increased massively, leaving youths mentally broken and hopeless. As a result of this hardship, Nigerian youths have engaged themselves in different sorts of illicit activities such as internet fraud, drug trafficking, kidnapping, armed robbery and more. This is dangerous for the growth and development of the country.

The current hardship is worsened by the country’s reliance on oil exports, neglect of critical infrastructure and inadequate social services. The people’s suffering is apparent, from families struggling to put food on the table to businesses shutting down due to lack of electricity and enabling environment.

I urge the Nigerian government to take immediate action to address the above challenges. By so doing, I believe things will change for good in the country; then we can have a better Nigeria.
