Unemployed man in court over alleged unlawful possession of firearms, cultism

A 23-year-old unemployed man, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Friday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over unlawful possession of firearm and membership of a secret cult.

The police charged Abdullahi, who resides in Satellite Town area of Lagos, with three counts of conspiracy, unlawful society and possession of firearms.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 30, 2018, at the Satellite Town, Lagos.

Ogu said that the defendant was arrested with three AK 47 live ammunition, two live expanded cartridges without a licence.

He alleged that the defendant also belonged to a secret society called ‘Eiye’ confraternity.

The prosecution said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 41, 330 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 41 stipulates seven years imprisonment for belonging to unlawful society while section 330 prescribes seven years for illegal possession of arms.

Magistrate J.A Adegun admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adegun ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case until May 25 for mention.
