Men of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested an undergraduate, identified as Olusoji Thompson over the killing of his 86-year-old father, High Chief Clifford Olumekun with an axe.
Thompson was said to have committed the crime at No 1, Okeraye Street, Idepe in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state where the deceased was axed to death.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Femi Joseph, said the suspect had been detained at the State Criminal Investigative Department of the command for further investigation.
He said the command has not been able to unravel the reason behind the action of the suspect but said the suspect was still under interrogation.
He said, “The incident happened on January 2, 2017 and we have arrested the suspect. We are still interrogating him to know why he carried out such an act.”
He stated further that after the police’s investigation, the suspect would be charged to court.
A source however, disclosed that the suspect after killing his father, packed his remains, wrapped it with a cloth and cleaned the blood stains in the room so as not to give room for suspicion that the (deceased) was murdered.
He said the suspect fled the town immediately after committing the crime.
“When the family members got into the room they noticed that blood stains that were carelessly cleaned were on the floor of the room.
“They also found out that blood stains that were supposed to be on the deceased’s body had been carefully cleaned and his corpse was wrapped in a big cloth as if he died naturally. “
The source added that the family immediately consulted the oracle to expose the killer but the suspect who had earlier fled the town showed up and confessed to the crime and was later handed over to the police.
