Unapproved bus parks would be eliminated in 2025 — FCTA

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced that it will no longer permit unapproved taxi ranks and bus parks in the city centre starting next year, once its modern bus terminals, currently under construction, are operational.

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, made this known after inspecting the bus terminals under construction in Nyanya and Mabushi on Tuesday.

In an earlier statement, Wike explained that while illegal parks persist, he could not take action against them without first offering an alternative for commuters.

Pleased with the progress of the construction, the minister initially set a 15-month completion timeline, expected to end in October 2025.

However, the contractors assured that the terminals would be ready for commissioning by January.

He said, “I am so excited. This site was flagged off on July 1 and within three months, you can see what they have been able to do.

“The time given to them is 15 months to complete the project but with the speed the contractor is going, we believe it will be before that 15 months.

“He has also told us that by January, he will deliver those projects -in Mabushi and Kugbo – to us.

“I am happy that at the end of the day, the residents of Abuja will see that we have changed the landscape of the area, we have given them an efficient transportation system and we are very happy with what we have seen.

“By the time we finish these (terminals), you don’t need to be having those ones, we won’t allow buses and taxis to pick on the roads. Everybody has to move to the various terminals.”
