Umahi imposes curfew in Ebonyi community over killings, destruction of properties

In a determination to restore peace and order in Effium community, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has imposed a 4 pm to 8 am curfew in the area with effect from Sunday, January 24, until normalcy returns to the community.

Umahi gave the order on Sunday in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Barr. Uchenna Orji, and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki.

In the statement, Umahi condemned the unabated violence and wanton destruction of lives and property in Effium community.

He directed security agencies to ensure the strict enforcement of the curfew and to deal decisively with any person or group of persons involved in the killings and destruction of properties.

The statement read: “The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi FNSE FNATE deeply frowns at the unabated violence and wanton destruction of lives and property in Effium community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

“In his determination to restore peace and order, the governor has imposed a curfew in Effium community from 4 pm to 8 am on daily basis with effect from Sunday, 24th January 2021, until normalcy returns to the affected community.”
