Ukraine war: Kyiv hit by deadly Russian missile, drone attack — Mayor

At least two people have been confirmed dead and 54 injured in a Russian missile and drone strike on Kyiv, with Ukraine’s state emergencies service later reporting nine fatalities and 63 injured, according to preliminary figures.

Kyiv Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said the overnight assault triggered multiple fires after falling drone wreckage landed in residential areas.

He warned that people may still be trapped under the rubble of a destroyed building.

In a post on social media, Klitschko revealed that “six children and a pregnant woman were among those injured in the overnight Russian attack.”

He added, “Fires broke out in six locations,” and confirmed there were “people are under the rubble” of a residential structure.

Emergency crews were seen sifting through the debris in search of survivors. The worst-hit area, Klitschko noted, was the Svyatoshynskyi district in the west of the capital.

Social media footage appeared to capture the moment missiles struck the city, igniting large-scale blazes.

Elsewhere, the north-eastern city of Kharkiv also came under attack. Local authorities reported at least two people injured.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov said “private houses” were damaged in the strike, which involved both missiles and drones.

Ukraine’s air force issued a warning that nearly all regions were under threat of further air raids.

The assault came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of obstructing peace talks following his refusal to recognise Russia’s claim over Crimea.

Ukraine maintains that Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014, remains sovereign Ukrainian territory.

Since launching a full-scale invasion in 2022, Russian forces continue to hold control of about 20% of Ukraine.

However, the Russian military has not commented on the latest reported attacks.
