Is there any politician in Nigeria today who can come out publicly and say his hands are clean? Will the conviction of former Delta State governor, Mr James Ibori, by a London court serve as a lesson to other politicians?
These questions came straight to my mind when it was reported that Ibori’s London jail term had expired. For me, the UK has done well for Nigeria. It is high time the Nigerian authorities were encouraged to jail more corrupt politicians. Our politicians have stolen billions of naira without anybody challenging them.
It is a pity that the UK government cannot come to Nigeria to arrest and prosecute corrupt politicians, because it has shown greater resolve than the Nigerian authorities. Nigerians are suffering because of leadership problem. I equally urge the UK authorities to return all looted funds stashed in UK banks by our corrupt politicians. There should be no hiding place for corrupt politicians.
