THE University of Ibadan Muslim Graduates Association (UIMGA) held the 18th edition its annual scholarship on Sunday with the presentation of N1 million to 20 indigent Muslim students.
At the event held at Professor M.O.A. Abdul Islamic Centre, University of Ibadan, each of the students, drawn from the University of Ibadan, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Osun State University and Bayero University, Kano, received the sum of N50,000.
Cheques were presented to the beneficiaries by the UIMGA National President, Alhaji Imran AbdulMojeed and Alhaja Hadrat AbdulAzeez from the United States of America who represented members of the association in the Diaspora.
Alhaja AbdulAzeez and the chairman of UIMGA scholarship scheme, Alhaji Abdullah Wale Adelakun, advised the students to show discipline and be good ambassadors of Islam.
Professor Sherifat Aboaba, who delivered a lecture titled ‘Striving for Academic Excellence and Brazing Up for the Challenges Ahead’, stressed the need for the students to struggle towards graduating with good results and excellent character.
Professor Aboaba noted the need for the students to acquire entrepreneurial skills to survive rather than hoping for white-collar jobs after graduation.
The association’s National President, Alhaji Imran AbdulMojeed, offered prayers for all the donors and members of the association at home and in the Diaspora.
He advised the students to participate actively in the association’s activities after graduation.
