Uche Jumbo counts blessings, set to celebrate 20 years as actress

Nollywood actress, Uche Jumbo, has had her fair share of the good and bad sides of being a famous celebrity. Recalling her 20 years journey into the movie world, Jumbo said it had been an eventful ride laced with different obstacles that almost pushed her off track.

Having weathered through different storms of life before hitting the top of her career as a movie-maker, the actress said when she made her debut in the movie industry 20 years ago, she could not have imagined her life would turn out beautiful as it is today.

With over 200 films as an actress and over 30 films as a screenwriter, Jumbo said she walked her way from playing lead in her first movie role to moving into script writing and later emerged a lead actors in several other movies, adding that her life later change for good when she co-wrote ‘Games Men Play’ with popular producer, Emem Isong.

“What a journey it has been. I worked my way from playing lead in my first movie to waka pass roles, supporting roles to no role. I moved into writing the roles I wanted as a script writer and back to leading roles with ‘Games Men Play,’ which I co-wrote with Emem Isong to investing back into the industry that changed my life.”

With over 30 films as an executive producer and six movies as a director, Jumbo said the journey for her had just begun, adding that while it looked like she had made it big as not just an actor but a producer and director, she would not rest on her oars.

“I made it this far because of people who never gave up on me. My fans keep encouraging me and I am grateful to everyone, who gave me a chance, worked with me, partnered on projects to bring out the best in me,” she said.

Jumbo, however, promised that the big celebration of the 20 years on stage had been moved to December.
