Ubah reveals why he backs Obiano, speaks on APGA, 2019 election

Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, the chairman of Capital Oil and Gas, has revealed why he made a last minute detour from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and subsequently support Governor Willie Obiano during the Nov. 18, 2017, governorship election in the State.

Ubah, who had earlier contested for the ticket of the PDP to run against Obiano, described APGA as the only outstanding political party owned by the Igbo people today, saying that Aka Ikenga, Ohaneze Ndigbo and others were mere pressure groups.

He said, “If the Igbo people do not wish to lose their name in Nigeria, then they must join the APGA.

APGA is the only Igbo institution today that is standing, that is recognised by the Nigeria constitution.

“Again, I supported Willie Obiano because he was being unduly victimised by people who had had their turn long ago in governance. What I didn’t like was that a former state governor was throwing his weight around as the kingmaker in Anambra.

“If you go to states around the country, you will realise that those who have had their time as governors have all carried on with their lives, leaving their successors to have their time. But here, a former governor did not want to retire.

“That was why I decided to join the battle for APGA. Ohaneze, Aka Ikenga and the rest are all pressure groups, the one that is recognised is APGA. The name of Igbo will not go underneath, already we are waiting to deliver Umeh to Senate this January.

By 2019 we will replicate same in states in the south-east.

”Ubah expressed confidence that APGA would make an impressive showing in 2019, saying that Imo was already in the party’s kitty.

“Imo has always been an APGA state, and all we need to do is to go and take back the state because our root is very strong there,” he said.On who the party would support in the 2019 presidential election, Ubah said this would be decided after strong negotiations.

He said the whole country has already seen from the governorship election that Anambra is APGA in its entirety and that whoever wants to win the state must come to the leaders of the party for negotiation.
