TWO armed robbery suspects met their Waterloo on Wednesday, at Ifo town in Ogun State, when they were arrested after attacking two women, unknown to them to be female police officers.
The suspects were identified as Hafiz Omidokun (29) and Peter Babalola (27).
Tribune Online learnt that the female police officers were on the way to work when the incident occurred.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the women were driving a car belonging to one of them from Ifo going to Sango Ota, but on getting to Iyana-Ilogbo area, the two suspects suddenly blocked the car with their motorcycle and held them at gunpoint.
It was further disclosed that after collecting the women’s bags and phones, the suspects were about to zoom off on their motorcycle when the two women officers engaged then in a fight and raised the alarm.

The PPRO said that the two suspects fled when they sensed danger, but the women, with the help of passers-by, pursued them.
“Realising that they were about to get caught, the suspects made an attempt to snatch another motorcycle for the purpose of using it to escape, but were apprehended before they could achieve their aim,” Oyeyemi said.
He added that the armed robbers were almost lynched by an angry mob but were saved by the Divisional Police Officer, Sango Division, CSP Oyedele Nasirudeen, as he arrived with his patrol team, rescued and took them to the station.
Exhibits recovered from them included a locally-made pistol, an expended cartridge and a motorcycle.
The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation.
