Two students, 6 others crushed to death in Anambra auto crash

AT least six persons, including two students of Nneoma Secondary School, Otolo Nnewi, have been reported dead and several others sustained various degrees of injuries in multiple auto accident that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, February 21, along Akwudo Junction in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that a sewage truck collided with a small truck carrying gallons of palm oil. The small truck was then crashed into another big stationery truck containing different brands of the Nigerian Breweries beer.

The driver of the small truck carrying gallons of red oil, who was identified as Ugochukwu from Ndiakwu Otolo Nnewi, with another woman seated at the passenger side, died instantly. Two other students of Nneoma Secondary School, Nnewi, who were crossing the place on foot, were also crushed.

There was mild drama when angry youths stormed the place, set the trucks on fire and catered away with over 100 cartons of beer.

The dead bodies were deposited at the morgue of the Akwudo Hospital; while those that sustained serious injuries were at the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relation Officer PPRO, of the State Command, SP Mohammed Haruna, who confirmed the incident in a press statement said the Area has been taking over by men of the force to prevent further breakdown of law and order and prevent looters from taking more advantage of the situation to loot.

He noted that effort is ongoing to clear obstructions and case is under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the ugly incident.
