Mustapha said the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by beating the complainant, Ogunyemi Julius, with wood in the process of discharging his duty.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 351 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted each of the accused bails in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and they must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

The Magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 25 for further hearing.
