Two killers of Police Inspector shot dead in Imo

Published by

Two suspended gunmen were on Wednesday, at the Obiapko community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, killed by the Tactical Team of the Imo State Police Command, Owerri.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Rabiu Hussaini, disclosed this in Owerri through the Command’s Public Relations Officer CSP Michael Abatham.

The CP said that the killed gunmen identified as Modestus Ugwuoha aka Modukpe and his gang member had been terrorizing Obiakpo community since they escaped from the Correctional Centre, Owerri.

Hussaini added that the duo also carried out a terror attack on Njaba Police Station, which resulted in the killing of a police Inspector, an incident which compelled him to mandate the command’s tactical teams to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

The CP said that after the diligent gathering of credible information and technical intelligence, the command’s tactical teams mobilised to the camp and on approaching the terror camp, the hoodlums on sighting the command’s tactical teams shot at them, and there was an exchange of gunfire.

According to him due to the superior firing power of the police, two of the hoodlums were neutralised, while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds.

He said that the gun of the neutralised hoodlums was recovered, which included a locally made double barrel pump action gun.

The CP said that Modupke, an ex-convict and the leader of the terror gang had been violently robbing and raping women in their community.

“He has been on the wanted list of the Police command for a very long time,” the police boss disclosed.

Meanwhile, the command’s tactical teams are presently combing the bush in pursuit of the fleeing bandits and for the possible recovery of their arms.

The Commissioner of Police while commending the officers and men for their efforts, enjoined the community to work in synergy with the Police Command by forming vigilante groups, assisting the police with credible information and report any suspicious person(s) or criminal activities seen in their neighbourhoods to the nearest police station.

He vowed to sustain the raid operations of all criminal hideouts with a view of eradicating all criminals in the state, to sustain the already achieved peace being enjoyed by Imolites.
