Two academy of medicine specialties fellows bag HLF role model awards

Two erudite Nigerian scholars, Prof. Adesola Ogunniyi of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and Prof Christian Happi, who is the Director of African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases at the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, have been selected for the Hallmarks of Labour Foundation (HLF) Role Model Award for this year.

The duo, who are Fellows of the Academy of Medicine Specialties, among other professional bodies, were selected for the honour based on their exemplary contributions in the field of medicine and science respectively and to humanity across Africa.

HLF Role Model Award is designed by the foundation to identify and celebrate Africans particularly Nigerians, who have achieved success not by fraudulent means, but through due diligence, hard work, honesty and integrity in their respective fields of endeavours with a view to promoting positive values among younger generations and making Nigeria attains greatness among committee of nations.

The President of the Academy of Medicine Specialties and consultant reproductive endocrinologist, Prof Oladapo Ashiru, while making this disclosure in a statement on Saturday, expressed happiness over the development, saying the Academy is very proud of them.

According to Ashiru, both Ogunniyi and Happi have really demonstrated their knowledge and wealth of experiences to achieve great success in their areas of specializations and advancement of course of science generally in Africa.

He congratulated them and wished them more wins.

Some eminent Nigerians who were past winners of the award and still alive or dead included Prof. Peter Okebukola;  Prof Wole Soyinka, Prof Oladapo Ashiru, Prof Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, Prof Attahiru Jega, Prof. Oyewale Tomori, Prof. Osato Giwa-Osagie, Prof Tonnie Osa Iredia, Prof Ekanem Braide, Chief Lateef Jakande, Chief Folake solanke, Dr Josephine Okei-Odumakin, Dr. Molade Okoya-Thomas, Mr. Raji Fashola, Mr. Femi Falana, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie, Prof Bolaji Akinyemi, Gamaliel Onosode, Prof Grace Allele Williams, Otunba Subomi Balogun, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, Pa Abraham Adesanya, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, Prof Babagana Zulum,  Prof Ben Nwabueze, Chief (Mrs) Onikepo Akande, Prof Nimi Briggs, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Dr sonny Kuku, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina and host of others.
