President Donald Trump is considering Richard Grenell and David Friedman for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Grenell, a former ambassador to Germany, and Friedman, a former envoy to Israel, are among nearly 30 interested candidates.
Trump withdrew Representative Elise Stefanik’s nomination last week, citing concerns over its impact on the Republican House majority.
“We have a lot of good people that want it. David Friedman, Ric Grenell, and maybe 30 others. Everyone loves that position. That’s a star-making position,” Trump told reporters.
Grenell, now a special envoy and interim Kennedy Center president, is a top contender.
Friedman played a key role in Trump’s foreign policy during his first term.
Former South Carolina Governor, Nikki Haley previously held the role before running against Trump in last year’s Republican primaries.
