Truck kills okada rider in Ondo, driver on the run

An articulated truck on Thursday morning, crushed a yet-to-be-identified commercial motorcycle operator to death in Akungba-Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 10am when the truck ran over the middle-aged motorcyclist killing him instantly before he could be rushed to the hospital.

It was gathered that the commercial motorcyclist was caught unaware when the incident happened while the truck crashed on the motorcycle and the rider.

The driver of the truck ran away from the scene of the incident immediately he found out the the commercial motorcyclist had been killed.

The action of the driver infuriated the residents of the community and set the truck ablaze in protest against the killing of a yet-to-be identified commercial motorcyclist by the truck.

A resident explained that the truck hit the deceased on the head while descending the Okerigbo Hill on the Owo-Ikare Expressway.

He however, said that the driver of the truck was no where to be found as he was said to have fled the scene.

The eyewitness said, “What infuriated the people is the disappearance of the driver of the truck. He fled immediately after he killed the okada man. That is why they set the vehicle on fire.”

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident but said the details of the accident is still sketchy but said the motorcyclist had been confirmed killed in the ugly incident.

“I’m yet to have the details of the accident; I am yet to get the full details,” the PPRO said.
