The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday said that the Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, AFN and other Security Agencies are making speedy progress in the ongoing fight against insurgency activities in the various theatres of operations account the country with the elimination of 8, 034 Terrorists From January this year to date
Direction Defence Media Operations, Major Gen Edward Buba disclosed this while updating Defence Correspondents in Abuja on the successes recorded by troops at the theatres of operations since January this year
According to him. “Troops aggression across the various theatres of Operation since the beginning of the year culminated in 8,034 neutralized terrorists, 11,623 arrested and 6,376 rescued hostages. Furthermore, troops recovered 8,216 weapons, and 211,459 ammunition and denied the oil theft of an estimated sum over N57 bn (N57,052,218,551.00) only.
He explained that the Troops have since the beginning of the year been confronted by different threats in five active theatres of operations across the country, namely; North East, North West, North Central, South South and South East.
According to the DDMO, “Troops adopted a high level of alert and an increased state of readiness to protect the country from further terrorist aggression and insecurity.

He stated that the breakdown of the recoveries made by the troops during the period under review are as follows: 4,053 AK47 rifles, 1,123 locally fabricated guns, 731 Dane guns and 240 pump action guns. Others are; 120,247 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 41,515 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 5,373 cartridges, 1,940 assorted arms and 25,664 assorted ammunitions.
He pointed out that ” additionally, troops recovered: 53,101,430 litres of stolen crude oil, 9,179,181 litres of illegally refined AGO and 90,595 litres of DPK. Others are; 156,095 litres of PMS amongst other items.
According to him, ‘Overall, the military is keeping up the pressure through ongoing operations in the various theatres across the country.
” The military is through these operations, increasingly creating conditions in which terrorists can not carry out acts of terror or harm citizens.
” On the whole, the armed forces are constantly examining ways to improve the effectiveness of its operations and guarantee the safety of citizens. Relatedly, operations are on an upward trajectory to winning the war.
Speaking on Operations of the Troops. , Gen Buba said that the
” JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION HADIN KAI in the North East remained focussed on fighting terrorist and their cohorts across the North East theatre of operation.
According to him, “the troops conducted offensives striking at terrorist enclaves with air attacks. The ground forces on the other hand exerted significant military pressure on terrorists hibernating in their hideouts and enclaves.
” Overall, during the month of November 2024, troops of Operations HADIN KAI neutralized 347 terrorists, arrested 268 suspects and rescued 111 kidnapped hostages. Additionally, troops recorded 299 surrendered BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and their families.
“The summary of recovered items include: 183 AK47 rifles, 53 fabricated rifles, 42 Dane guns, 26 assorted arms, 3,956 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,235 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 2,721 assorted ammunition
He added that the troops of the “JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION SAFE HAVEN” in the North Central
conducted offensive operations to dominate the theatre of Operation during the month of November 2024.
According to him, “Significantly, several operations were conducted violent extremist hideouts, strongholds and enclaves.
“Overall, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN neutralized 48 violent extremists, arrested 170 and rescued 154 kidnap hostages. Troops also recovered 19 AK47 rifles, 18 fabricated guns, 12 assorted arms, 665 rounds of 7.62mm special, 333 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 127 assorted ammunition.
He further explained that the troops off OPERATION WHIRL STROKE also in t5 North Central conducted several operations during the month of November 2024 ranging from search and rescue, raids, fighting patrols as well as cordon and search among others.
According to him, ” These operations spanned Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa States aimed at defeating terrorists and creating conditions whereby the terrorist is denied the ability to carry out terror or harm citizens.
” Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralized 22 terrorists, arrested 82 suspects and rescued 79 kidnapped hostages. Troops also recovered 18 AK47 rifles, 12 assorted arms, 304 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 103 rounds of assorted ammunition
He added that the troops of the ” TASK FORCE OPERATION DELTA SAFE in the South-South
maintained the momentum against the activities of crude oil theft. Troops continued to find and destroy illegal refining sites as well as arrest the perpetrators of oil theft. Indeed, troops’ operations spiked the nation’s daily crude oil production to over 1.5 million barrels per day
According to him, “Nevertheless, troops are urging for more transparency by the IOCs, accurate metering, cooperation of stakeholders in the sector and well cooperation from the local communities. Troops are also monitoring the prosecution of culprits perpetrating crude oil theft.
“During the month of November 2024, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE arrested 231 persons involved in crude oil theft. Troops also denied the oil theft of 4,728,870 litres of crude oil, 2,024,955 litres of AGO and 19,845 litres of PMS.
“Furthermore, troops recovered 323 assorted ammunition and destroyed 280 wooden boats as well”
Gen Buba however assured that the military would maintain the ongoing onslaught on the Terrorists in the determined efforts to end insurgency activities in the country
He also disclosed that the military was working in connection with other security agencies to make the coming Yuletide celebration a crime-free and peaceful for law-abiding citizens.
