The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Tuesday said troops have killed several bandits while bombing their camp through air offensives carried out at Kusasu Area of Kaduna State.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, DMO, Maj. Gen. John Enenche
He explained that the attacks executed by the Air Component of Operation Thunder Strike using Nigerian Air Force jets and helicopter gunships on Sunday recorded a precise and accurate rocket strikes on the targeted and identified location resulting into the destruction of their camp and killings of the bandits.
He stated that sequel to Human Intelligence reports, corroborated by series of aerial surveillance missions, the camp of a bandits’ leader known as Alhaji Labi, (an associate of Dogon Gede, a notorious bandits’ leader in Katsina State) was identified.
“Accordingly, the Air Component dispatched an appropriate force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships to attack the location.
“Overhead the target area, the significant presence of the bandits, along with a large number of rustled cattle, was observed.
“The attack aircraft took turns in engaging the location, delivering devastating hits which destroyed the bandits’ structures, including their logistics storage facilities, which were seen engulfed in flames,” he stated.
He added that “several armed bandits were also killed in the attack.”
He further pledged the resolve of the military and other security agencies to the fight against banditry and other sundry crimes until normalcy was restored to all troubled zones of the country.
