Trinity University elevates Prof Kolawole to substantive VC

The Governing Council of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, has appointed Prof Clement Kolawole as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university. Before this appointment, Kolawole, a Professor of English Language and Curriculum Instruction, had been serving in an acting capacity following the tenure of the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Ayo, since last September.

The Registrar of the university, Mr. David Oyejide, made this disclosure in a statement provided by the university’s spokesperson, Mr. Michael Bangbola, on Tuesday. According to the registrar, Kolawole’s elevation to a substantive vice-chancellor is a result of his track record in less than a year in office as an acting vice-chancellor. He noted that Kolawole and his team had substantially developed the university in terms of human and material resources, course offerings, research activities, and student population.

The registrar highlighted that under Kolawole’s leadership, the university had secured full accreditation for all its 16 courses and programs from the National Universities Commission (NUC), as well as from professional bodies such as ICAN for professional courses.

Another significant achievement, according to the registrar, was the success of the recent maiden convocation ceremony, where the first two sets of 72 graduates were awarded degrees, the first Chancellor of the University, Prince Samuel Adedoyin, was inaugurated, and two eminent Nigerians, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, wife of the late governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, and Dr. John Obaro, were conferred with honorary doctorate degrees.

The university community congratulated Kolawole on his elevated role and wished him well. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the Trinity Foundation, Board of Trustees, Governing Council, management, staff, and students of the university for believing in him and his ability to move the university to greater heights. He promised to work harder while soliciting continuous support and cooperation from all stakeholders in the system.

Kolawole, 66, hails from Ondo State and was appointed as a professor by the University of Ibadan in 2008. He is a member of many professional organizations, including the Nigerian Academy of Education, National Association of Curriculum Theorists, International Council on Education for Teaching, and International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language, among others.
