How we tricked and robbed Onazi’s father —Robbery suspects

Published by

Five members of an armed robbery gang that invaded the Plateau State-home, Jos,  of the father of Super Eagles’ midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi,  have narrated how they tricked the old man to open the gate of the house for them.

The suspects said they had lied to the older Onazi that they had a message for him from Lagos, when he opened the gate for them.

They also denied that they threatened to come back to the house for the footballer himself, though they admitted to have brought the stolen vehicle to Lagos for sale.

The state police  boss, Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspects before newsmen  on Thursday afternoon, described the  arrest as a testimony to the fact that the police are well positioned and poised to arrest any criminal.

The Lagos police boss said “the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police,  Ibrahim, Idris  is well more positioned and poised to ensure that no matter where any heinous crime is committed , the police will go after the criminals  and make them to face the full wrath of the law .”

The arrested suspects included: Kingsley David, Ugochukwu Ebuka, Austen Ezenna, Joseph Uzor and Alli Adamu.

The suspects were arrested in a hotel at Ajangbadi area of the state by policemen from Ajangbadi division, who also recovered the  Toyota Highlander Sports Utility Vehicle with the registration number, GMU 300 AAA

The robbery was said to have been hatched  by one Kingsley a neighbour of Onazi’ s father at  his Jos GRA residence.

Joseph Uzor,  while speaking with Lagos Metro,  said; “It was Kingsley that told us about the vehicle. He was the one that knows the man  very well.”

He continued: “When we got to the gate, we knocked and when the old man answered, we lied to him that we had a message for him from Lagos and he partly opened the gate.”

“We pushed him and he fell on the ground. We asked him for the key of his vehicle  and his ATM card and we drove the vehicle away.

The leader of the gang, Kingsley, also confessed to have participated in the robbery, but he insisted that four members of the gang actually planned the robbery operation.

The gang leader stated that the robbery was planned for a week, before they finally decided to strike.

Alli Adamu  denied being aware that they were going for a robbery operation, insisting that he was only invited by the gang to help drive the vehicle to Lagos.

“Initially, I did not know that we were going for a robbery operation. I did not know the man was Onazi’s father. It was later that I knew. They only called me to come and help them drive the vehicle,” Adamu said.
