Correspondent of the Tribune newspapers in Kwara state, Abiola Azeez, has won the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) 2024 best reporter award in the Print category in the state.
According to the organizers of the award ceremony, the state council of the NUJ, during this year Press Week celebrations in Ilorin on Tuesday night, the award bestowed on Mallam Abiola Azeez, “celebrates not just his exceptional skills as a reporter but also his role as an ambassador of truth and professionalism in journalism”.
The state chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Lanre Ahmed, also described Azeez as a tireless storyteller, who consistently uses his platform, the Nigerian Tribune, to spotlight activities and development in Kwara State.
“It is a rare edition of the newspaper that does not carry his byline, a testament to his hard work, reliability, and commitment to the craft of journalism”.
The citation of the award recipient read: “Mallam Biola Azeez of the Nigerian Tribune, fondly known as “Kabiyesi” among his colleagues in the pen fraternity, is a distinguished journalist and OND/HND graduate in Mass Communication from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, the Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta and Master’s in Communication Arts (MCA) from the University of Ibadan.
“His unwavering dedication and passion for journalism have made him a familiar and respected presence at events across Kwara State.

Some other award recipients at the occasion include regional editor of the Leadership newspapers, Abdullahi Olesin (best Editor), Ibrahim Alege of the TVC (best TV reporter), Jimba Babatunde of the Kwara TV (best TV producer), Ayodeji Ismail (best Sports reporter), Abdullahi Ahmed (best Radio reporter) and Abeeb Ahmed Oredunni (best press secretary).
