Tribune poised for quantum leap in 2017

Published by

RECOGNISING Nigeria’s challenging business environment this year, Nigerian Tribune, on Wednesday, marked the end of 2016 celebrating God’s faithfulness and goodness, with optimism that the organisation was poised for a quantum leap in coming years.

The Tribune Christian Fellowship organised event, held at Tribune Annex Hall also saw the celebration of virtues of resilience in trying times, sheer hard work of staff and innovativeness that has been the hall mark of Tribune, over the years.

In his message that revolved around the programme themed, “Fruitfulness”, Group Business Editor, Mr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, asserted that media industries were bound to be innovative and resourceful if they were to remain in business.

Speaking in view of the “turbulent period” in the media industry, epitomised by declining newspaper readership, Olanrewaju harped on the imperativeness of innovativeness and ingenuity by every media practitioner for organisations to generate more revenue.

He explained that it was a God-assigned prerogative of each member of an organisation’s work force to create value, to be diligent and render services, rather than to work for the purpose of promotions and commendations.

“Wherever you found yourself as a member of the work force, you are duty bound, as a child of God is to make your best available. The duty of a work force is to generate revenue by creating value. And we create value by meeting and exceeding expectations. If you don’t meet expectations, you have dwindling revenue; if you meet expectations, you increase revenue.”

“You are not doing the management a favour by working for them; you are fulfilling your purpose on earth. Many of us don’t give their best because we expect a reward. Every transaction with man is a deal with God. What manner reward you get is dependent on the quality of service you give wherever you are.”

“God expects man to be innovative to dominate the earth. It is only innovation that can make our dreams to become a reality. As a workforce, it is expected that we are innovative. Whether Tribune will stop here or move into the future is dependent on innovation. If we don’t move with innovation, we will be short-changed,” Olanrewaju said.

Chairman, African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, Reverend (Mrs) Omotola Oyediran, who graced the event, saluted the forbearance of Nigerians amid the current challenging times, asserting that the situation was bound to improve.

While noting that Tribune had survived different tides for over 67 years of its existence, she revelled in the promises of better fortunes and unique heights for the Tribune titles, stating from 2017.

In his remarks, Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Nigerian Tribune, Mr Edward Dickson avowed that Tribune titles will remain a living entity, with continued innovativeness and unity of purpose among members of staff.

He specifically praised the Awolowo family for sustaining the legacies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief HID Awolowo, which had continued to rub off on the affairs of ANN Plc.

Dickson reiterated optimism that the reinvigorated online services, set to commence in January 2017 would positively impact upon the company’s revenue and its market position.

Some members of staff of the Tribune titles at the event were, Human Resources Manager, Mrs Bukola Ezeamaka; Chief Accountant, Mrs Oluremi Olufisayo; Manager, Internal Audit, Mr Peculiar Adegbite; Chief Sub Editor, Mr Laolu Afolabi, Purchasing Manager, Mr S. B. Afolabi.
