THE final burial rite of the late village head of Ukoni, Uromi in Edo state, Pa. Daniel Ewalefoh Usigbe, comes up today in his home town.
The father of Nigerian Tribune’s Deputy Editor, Leon Usigbe, died on December 11, 2016 at the age of 94.
Popularly known as Usigbe nelimhin, (Usigbe the spirit), he was a portrait of discipline, fairness, and tact.
Also a unifier, Pa. Usigbe was blessed with wisdom and vast knowledge of local and international issues which enabled him to preside over his village affairs with minimal difficulty.
He was a gifted igbabonelimhin (traditional acrobatic) dancer whose performances attracted plaudits well beyond his Ukoni village.
Despite his popularity early on among his people, the late village head refused to be drawn into partisan politics but willingly offered his counsel to politicians who came to him.
Once a registered nurse with St. Camillus Hospital, Uromi, he also operated a Pharmaceutical store in the same town.
He is survived by 24 children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
