Trial of suspected killers of Offa student begins Monday in Ilorin

The trial of the suspected killers and conspirators in the death of a final-year female student of the College of Health Technology, Offa, Awesu Mojisola, will commence on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the State High Court, Ilorin, before Justice I. A. Yusuf.

Seven accused persons are involved in the case, comprising the suspected killers and conspirators.

It is recalled that the deceased was killed on August 9, 2024, and her corpse was dumped at a dump site in the Gerewu area of Ilorin, the state capital. The deceased was lured to Ilorin from Offa by a suspected Yahoo boy under the pretence that a sign-out party would be held among some students of two private universities at a hotel in Ilorin.

According to a charge sheet titled KWS/314/C/24, dated December 6, 2024, and signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ayoola Idowu Akande, and the Senior State Counsel, State Ministry of Justice, Yetunde Ajayi, the accused persons include the parents of a suspected killer in the six-count charge.

The suspects include Adebayo Joshua Happiness, Adebayo Adeniyi, Bukola Adeniyi, Kolawole Timileyin, Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus.

The charge states:

Count One: That you, Adebayo Joshua Happiness and Timileyin Kolawole, on or about the 9th day of August, 2024, at Ilorin, Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to commit an illegal act, to wit: conspired among yourselves to cause the death of one Awesu Mojisola and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code, CAP. P4, Laws of Kwara State, 2006.

Count Two: That you, Adebayo Joshua Happiness and Timileyin Kolawole, on or about the 9th day of August, 2024, at Ilorin, Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, committed an illegal act, to wit: caused the death of one Awesu Mojisola and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Penal Code, CAP. P4, Laws of Kwara State, 2006.

Count Three: That you, Adebayo Joshua Happiness, Adebayo Adeniyi, and Bukola Adeniyi, on or about the 9th day of August, 2024, at Offa, Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to commit an illegal act, to wit: conspired among yourselves to cause the disappearance and/or destruction of evidence and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code, CAP. P4, Laws of Kwara State, 2006.

Count Four: That you, Adebayo Joshua Happiness, Adebayo Adeniyi, and Bukola Adeniyi, on or about the 9th day of August, 2024, at Offa, Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, committed an illegal act, to wit: caused the disappearance and/or destruction of evidence and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 167 of the Penal Code, CAP. P4, Laws of Kwara State, 2006.

Count Five: That you, Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus, on or about the 9th day of August, 2024, at Ilorin, Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, committed an illegal act, to wit: conspired among yourselves to offer indignity to the corpse of one Awesu Mojisola by dumping her dead body at a dumpsite in the Wara area, Ilorin, Kwara State, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 9 of the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.

Count Six: That you, Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus, on or about the 9th day of August, 2024, at Ilorin, Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, committed an illegal act, to wit: offered indignity to the corpse of one Awesu Mojisola by dumping her dead body at a dumpsite in the Wara area, Ilorin, Kwara State, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 6 of the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.
