2016 was, no doubt, a fashion forward year. Celebrities and fashion enthusiasts had fun experimenting with styles as well as copying trendy styles from their American idols, counterparts. Among the various styles which rocked the year are the corn row trend, chocker, trench coat, jackets worn around the shoulders and whole lots of more. In the outgoing year, fashionistas bravely tried different strange trends that did not only turn heads but also churn stomachs. Here are some trends STYLE thinks should be thrown in the dustbin of 2016.
Ridiculously deep plunging neckline:
This trend started earlier in the year during the award seasons and has found its way to regular events and shows. The deep plunging neckline almost reaches the navel, revealing the breast parts in a jaw- dropping way.
Body parts revealing mesh dress:
This trend is far from stylish. It appears slutty as it reveals private body parts and leaves nothing to imagination.
Double thigh high slits:
There is a fine line between trashy and chic. While the normal double slits looks cute and feminine, the thigh high slits that almost reaches the hip area is definitely not stylish. It should go with 2016.
The night gown turned daytime look:
Popularly called ‘suitejamas (coined from the words; suite and pyjamas), this trend is like wearing your night gown as a normal day time look. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Ciara, Rihanna and Naomi Campbell started this trend. There is no way this trend is stylish, it has to fade with 2016.
Guys experimenting with makeup:
Denrele Edun started this trend and now, social media personality, Okuneye Idris, popluarly known as Bobrisky, is following suit. Although this is a normal trend overseas, it is raising eyebrows in Nigeria as it is gradually becoming a craze among men.
The rag top trend:
Would you wear a dress that looks like it was badly eaten by rats? Kanye West started this trend and it has become a hit fashion trend. But most fashionistas are scared of trying this trend because of a possible media backlash and as such, it should go.
The bralet trend:
Bralet is all about wearing your bra as a crop top and with a jacket. The key to slaying this look is if you have a flat tummy but most ladies these days, even with a bulging tummy, experiment with this trend. Therefore, it should be bidden bye bye with 2016.
