TRCN set to release teachers’ professional qualifying results

An indication has emerged that the results of the October 2019 Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) conducted by the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) across the country will be released today.

The Federal Government through TRCN introduced the exam for teachers in 2017 as part of the initiative to ensure the professionalism of the teaching profession that had appeared to be all-comers-affair in the country.

And over 69,000 teachers sat the examination at the 47 designated computer-based test (CBT) centres across the federation and the federal capital territory with Oyo, Lagos, Kaduna states have the highest, second and third highest candidates of 5, 145; 5117 and 4,616 respectively while Zamfara State has the lowest, 397.

On the release of the results, the Registrar of TRCN and Chief Executive, Professor Olusegun Josiah Ajiboye, told our correspondent in an exclusive interview on Wednesday’s evening that the results would be released Thursday’s evening.

According to him, the council has concluded with the collation and other processes concerning the results and there is no reason to delay the release of it after all it was a computer-based exam.

“So, the Education Committee of TRCN would be meeting Thursday to approve the results and thereafter, releasing the results to the public,” he explained.

He noted that all the candidates in the exam including those from Oyo State who had their own exam on October 25 and 26 after earlier suspension due to their alleged unruly behaviour at exam venue on October 12, would all know their fate tomorrow.

“All the results are ready and would be released Thursday,” he emphasised.

Professor Ajiboye, however, reaffirmed that the exercise, ahead of December 31 deadline for every teacher in Nigeria to get certified- was aimed at weeding out the quacks from the teaching profession in the country.

He said the Federal Government’s determination to professionalize the teaching profession in Nigeria is irreversible and therefore the exam would be sustained until Nigeria is free of non-qualified teachers.
