Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers has awarded scholarships of N150,000 each to two students of Civil Engineering of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
The recipients of the scholarship awards are Adio Joseph, a 200 level student of Civil Engineering and another 300 level student from the same department, Adekogbe Oluwaferanmi
Speaking during the presentation of the scholarship held at the conference room of the College of Engineering, FUNAAB, Abeokuta, the national chairman of NIHTE, Engr Saidu Hassan, said that the scholarship was a testament to the organisation’s commitment to supporting academic excellence and promoting the development of transportation professionals.
Engr Hassan, represented by the national general secretary of NIHTE, Engr Bola Mudashiru, said “as we present these scholarships, we recognise not only the academic achievements of these students but also our shared dedication to nurturing the potential of our future engineers.
“We believe that investing in education is crucial to transforming the nation’s highway sector and promoting a safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation system.”
The chairman, while congratulating the recipients of the scholarships, however, urged them not to lower the bar but to continue to strive for academic excellence and achieve greater heights in their pursuits in life.
Engr Hassan also announced that the organisation had decided to support the beneficiaries of the scholarship until they graduate from the university.
He thanked the Department of Civil Engineering for the collaboration saying that the partnership between the department and the organisation remains invaluable.
In his remarks at the event, the dean, College of Engineering, Prof Olawale Dairo lauded NIHTE for it’s selflessness and favourable disposition to pushing for excellence in the engineering profession with the scholarship award.
Prof Dairo, represented by the deputy dean, Prof O Adetunji, said “as engineers, we have a critical role to play in addressing the nation’s infrastructure challenges.
“We must continue to innovate, collaborate, and push the boundaries of what is possible.
“I urge the scholarship recipients to embrace this responsibility, to be curious, and to be open to new ideas and perspectives.
“Remember, the power to change the world lies in your hands, and I have no doubt that you will make a positive impact.”
The head of the Civil Engineering Department, Dr Simeon Odunfa, also praised NIHTE for helping the students to achieve their academic goals, urging other organisations to come around and partner with the university to build a rewarding future for the country.
Odunfa equally pleaded with the students to let the scholarship motivate them to be more focused and work harder while serving as models for their colleagues.
Dignitaries at the event included Prof Waheed Adekojo, former deputy vice chancellor of the university; Prof Salami Ismaila, former Dean, College of Engineering; Prof Ezra Adeleke from the Mechanical Engineering dept; Prof J O Akinyele, Dr O J Adeosun, Head of Agricultural Bio-Resources Engineering, among others.
